If you’re looking for the best lounge at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Airport, look no further than The Clubhouse by Virgin Atlantic, which offers a well-crafted food and drink menu and a chic space to wait for your flight. Plus, if you’re an American Express Platinum or Centurion cardholder, you now get free access.
Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse Johannesburg Review
While I was collapsing in the Priority Pass lounges, my friend returned to the US a few days later and sent me pictures of the Virgin lounge.
Access + Locations + Times
The lounge is located after security screening in Terminal A (mezzanine level) and is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., although hours may vary due to the pandemic.
Access is restricted to following passengers:
- Virgin Atlantic Premium Class Passengers
- Passengers traveling on Virgin Atlantic in any cabin who are also:
- Flying Club Gold Members
- Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Elite Gold members and PPS cardholders
- Virgin Australia Velocity Club Gold, Platinum and The Club cardholders
- Virgin Australia Velocity Club Platinum cardholders
- American Express Platinum or Centurion cardholders traveling on any flight
Those who have access are entitled to one guest, with the exception of Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer elites. Your guest must be traveling on Virgin Atlantic, Delta Air Lines, Air France or KLM.
I understand (and correct me if I’m wrong) that Air France, Delta and KLM elite or business class passengers do not have access to this lounge.
A la carte menu
What makes its lounge so appealing compared to other airport lounges is a vast à la carte menu food and drink:
My friend reports you can’t go wrong with any of the cocktails and the food is great. He’s vegetarian and the menu has plenty of friendly options, including arancini, halloumi (pictured below), quinoa salad, gorgonzola gnocchi, mushroom curry and even a plant-based burger (pictured below). below).
Toilets + Showers
Showers are available, even during the pandemic.
Like the excellent service at Virgin Clubhouses in London and New York, the staff here is attentive and kind.
From the photos and the menu, this clearly seems to be JNB’s best choice of lounge. It is certainly on a whole other level than the South African Airways or Priority Pass lounges I have visited.
