Pothole patrols return to town after 10 years

Dialdirect and Discovery insurers relaunched the pothole patrol initiative after 10 years.

In collaboration with the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), the unique data-driven initiative took to the streets of Sandton at the official launch on May 3 at the corner of William Nicol and Sandton Records.

This initiative aims to repair potholes and make roads safer for all residents.

“Pothole patrols will give priority to the most frequently used roads, which will impact more riders and cause more damage,” said Anneli Retief, head of insurer Dialdirect.

Discovery Insurer CEO Anton Ossip added that it was important for both insurers to take a more proactive approach to risk rather than reactive.

Executive Mayor Geoff Makhubo, Transport MMC Nonhlanhla Makhuba and Ward 90 Martin Williams were also in attendance.

Makhuba noted that there was a long-term need for such a project in the city of Johannesburg due to the backlog in service delivery.

Makhubo praised the project because it translates into the importance of collaboration between the City and corporate citizens.
